Dermatologist. Author. Founder.
I've spent 25 years listening to patients. Their questions continue to shape my work.
About Dr. Wu →My patients' questions increasingly went beyond skin.
I built WUME to bring dermatology and women's health together, with doctors who know one another and coordinate your care. I continue to see patients for medical and cosmetic dermatology.

Read moreJessica Wu, MD is a Harvard trained, board certified dermatologist who has practiced in Beverly Hills for more than twenty five years. Her patients, from actresses to executives, come for a light and precise hand and for results that leave them looking like themselves. They stay because she takes the time to understand the whole person in front of her, not only the concern she came in with.
That habit is what led to WUME. Patients kept arriving with a question about skin and leaving with questions about hair, hormones, sleep, weight and energy. The changes were connected. Their care was not.
Dr. Wu wrote one of the first books to argue that what you eat shows up in your skin. Feed Your Face became a bestseller at a time when most of medicine treated diet and dermatology as unrelated.
She has served as a clinical investigator in trials of injectable and topical treatments that went on to receive FDA approval, and she developed her own skincare line. She has built two companies: WUME, where dermatology and women's health physicians practice together, and Residen, founded in 2023, a health technology company she leads as chief executive, built so that independent physicians can practice without the weight of running a building.
Her curiosity is matched by rigor, experience, and the restraint to know when not to treat.
Dr. Wu serves on Harvard Medical School's Advisory Council on Education. She has taught dermatology at USC, developed a lecture series for UCLA and USC residents on what training leaves out about actually practicing, and mentors medical students, residents and fellow physicians.
She speaks to physicians and to industry on independent practice, physician burnout, regenerative and aesthetic medicine, and midlife health.
Her work has been featured in The New York Times, ELLE, Forbes, People and The Wall Street Journal, and she is a regular contributor to KTLA Morning News. She has appeared on Good Morning America and CNN.
Dr. Wu rides motorcycles and is a certified Canadian ski instructor. She serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Zoo.

Dr. Wu speaks about
I don't want our next generation of doctors to inherit our exhaustion. Our frustration. I want them to inherit our courage. Our courage to build a different type of medicine, one where physicians will lead again.

Jessica Wu, MD is the bestselling author of Feed Your Face, one of the first books to connect what you eat with how your skin behaves. She has written for medical and consumer outlets ever since.
Her subjects have widened with her career. She writes on skin and aging, on artificial intelligence in medicine, on physician burnout, and on whether independent practice has a future. She follows developments in dermatology and health technology closely, and writes about them as they arrive.
Younger, Smoother Skin and a Beautiful Body in 28 Delicious Days. An Amazon Top 100 bestseller and one of the first books to argue that what you eat shows up on your skin, written at a point when most of medicine treated diet and dermatology as unrelated fields.
The argument underneath it still runs through her work: skin is usually where internal change becomes visible first, and treating the surface without asking what is happening below it is only half the job.
Amazon Top 100 bestseller. Published by St. Martin's Press in 2011, and since released in the United Kingdom, China, Russia, Taiwan and India.
The New York Times reviewed it, calling the book entertaining and informative and noting its practical guidance on what to eat, and what to avoid, for particular skin problems.
Publishers Weekly praised its calm, sensible approach, and recommended it to anyone looking for better skin.
What AI can never replace in medicineOn opening a practice twenty five years ago with paper charts and a Dictaphone, using AI every day now, and the trust between patients and physicians that has eroded alongside it.

Doctors were leaving medicine, and patients were being asked to carry their own information from one specialist to the next. Both come out of twenty five years of watching that happen from inside an exam room.
A Beverly Hills medical practice where dermatology and women's health physicians know one another, speak directly, and coordinate care around the patient. Dr. Wu continues to see patients there for medical and cosmetic dermatology.
All patient care now takes place at WUME, including appointments, prescription requests, and questions about treatment.
Dr. Wu co-founded Residen with Florin Toader after watching colleagues leave medicine, worn down by overhead and administration rather than by patient care. They interviewed hundreds of physicians before building anything.
Residen gives independent doctors modern clinical rooms by the day, with no long lease and no build out, and uses its own technology to handle scheduling, space and inventory. Open in Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles.
Please contact the WUME team for appointments, prescription requests, and other patient care questions.
